Personal Property

Every Ohio County resident is required by law to file an annual Personal Property Assessment form by the first day of October each year per West Virginia Code §11-5-3. Tangible Personal Property consists of, but not limited to, cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats and trailers, utility trailers, ATV’s, etc. You will need to report any personal property owned on July 1 of the current year.

Personal property forms are sent out from the Assessor’s office every July, if you do not receive a form, then you are not in our system and will need to contact this office for information. You will need a personal property receipt to obtain a vehicle license. If you are a resident of another state moving into West Virginia, you have 30 days to transfer title to get WV plates.
